Ask a question

Many elders do not have the privilege to spend their pension money on social activities. Social interaction is a human basic need that cannot be fulfilled for many elders and this leads to social isolation and loneliness. Social clubs and homes for elders can be a place for them to feel included and appreciated. The homes can offer security and peace of mind to the elderly and their families. Social gathering places can offer fun, friendship, and stimulation for older people who may be vulnerable to social isolation and loneliness.

Importance Importance

Many elders regularly feel lonely. Due to the low-income status of many elders, they have to set priorities. Setting money aside for leisure activities can sometimes not be possible anymore. By not giving priority to their social life many elders fall into social isolation and once someone feels socially isolated the step to re-enter into social contact can already be too big. The aim of social clubs or homes for elders is to tackle social isolation through care with dignity and respect.
