Many people in London struggle everyday to afford to eat. Those people range form being homeless, people with mental health issues, vulnerable people, and those who simply cannot afford it. The food industry wastes a lot of food. Only the food industry in the United Kingdom generates nearly 2 million tonnes of good edible surplus food every year that is just going to waste. By collecting good food that normally would go to waste disadvantaged Londoners could be provided with fresh fruit and vegetables, baked goods, salads, meat and fish.
Hunger does not only affect a person physically, but also mentally. People who live in poverty experience feelings of fear, anxiety, tension, and worry. They experience high levels of stress on a day to day basis and are left worrying how the next day is going to look like. Within these groups, children are particularly badly affected because they need the nutrients to grow strong and healthy. Vulnerable groups who live in poverty often have a harder time getting out of it since they have other factors influencing their lives in a bad way. Helping those groups in need can be done by ensuring that good food will not go to waste and in return providing them with the delivery of these meals.
Your impact donation is helping to achieve the below Sustainable Development Goals developed by the United Nations.
We rescue good food to feed the 1.5 million adults in London who struggle to afford to eat every day and the 400,000 children at risk of missing their next meal. The food industry in the UK generates nearly 2 million tonnes of good edible surplus food every year that is just going to waste. We collect and receive high-quality and nutritious food from over 170 suppliers like supermarkets, wholesalers, farms, restaurants and delis and then distribute it to over 350 charities, primary schools and holiday programmes in London. The surplus food is now feeding the vulnerable people, homeless, people with mental health issues and those who simply cannot afford it and providing them with fresh fruit and vegetables, baked goods, salads, meat and fish.
