Gibbons are one of the most threatened primates in the world due to increased habitat loss from deforestation and exploitation from the illegal pet trade. Gibbon Conservation Center’s mission is to promote conservation and research for gibbons through educational programs and crucial habitat protection. As their gibbons are wild and endemic to the dense forests of Southern Asia, the Gibbon Conservation Center is committed to providing a wild-like habitat that serves their instinctual acrobatic lifestyle and their fruit-based diet.
Fruit trees are crucial for a gibbon’s health and diet, as it is comprised of around 70% fruit, and 30% foliage, bird eggs and insects for extra protein to maintain a balanced diet.
Your impact donation is helping to achieve the below Sustainable Development Goals developed by the United Nations.
We are dedicated to the conservation of gibbons and currently house 40 gibbons which represents 5 out of the 17 living species. We also provide consulting services to zoos, museums, government agencies and individual scientists on species identification and gibbon care and assist gibbon rescue programs in Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam, Indonesia and India. 100% of our contributions go directly to the care of gibbons, including on-site care, education and world-wide conservation efforts.
