Ask a question

Teenagers who have experienced traumatic events like sexual or domestic abuse, separation anxiety, or significant loss may have a hard time visualizing a future for themselves. During there youth, those teenagers need to deal with emerging mental health difficulties and often feel alone or even ashamed within these personal struggles. Proactive listening and therapeutic practices help these teenagers to positively visualize a new future for themselves and start shaping their futures. This could be either in a one-on-one or a group setting allowing them to speak and feel for themselves, but also feel comforted listening to other teenagers who may have experienced similar events.

Importance Importance

Many teenagers struggling with mental health issues regularly feel misunderstood and this may even cause depression. Due to different factors as for example the low-income status of families with teenagers who experience mental health issues or feelings of shame that sexual or domestic abuse entails, there is no opportunity for these teenagers to seek mental health support. Mental health support is needed for those teenagers to help them understand themselves, but also for their families to help them to understand their bother, sister, or child. Therapeutic practices can help these teenagers and their families break the silence regarding mental health issues and help them together to envision a brighter future.
